Competing Values - Right vs. Wrong

Obviously, the decision making process involves making a choice. Duh. The mystery now becomes - what factors or influences help us arrive at a particular decision? Since we were born, our parents, siblings, teachers, coaches and society has been instilling in us values - either verbally or through example. Values can be simply defined as ones personal beliefs.

Nearly all youth have the ability to distinguish right from wrong, but they frequently don't act on this knowledge. When asked, they can usually give the right answer but, when faced with an actual situation, they often choose a real response reflecting a different set of values. There is a gap between their perception of what is right and what is real. In other words, without consideration to our values, we tned to choose to do something we know is wrong.
