Matt Padilla

Former Professional Player: Philadelphia Phillies Org.

As a player, Matt was a highly regarded pitcher from Granite Bay High School where he pitched for some very talented high school teams under head coach Pat Esposito. After Granite Bay Matt played for one season at Sacramento City College for Jerry Weinstein before deciding to transfer to Sierra College due to a coaching change at Sac City. Before he could play for Steve Eakes at Sierra College the Wolverines made a coaching change and he ended up here at American River where he was a starter for the 2003 squad that went 28-18. Matt had signed a letter of intent to play at Chico State the next year but decided to sign a professional contract when he was a 32nd round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies. Matt had a solid year in the Phillies organization and was even a roommate of National League MVP Ryan Howard while in the Fall Instructional League. After his pro career was over Matt came back to Sacramento and has been finishing his education at Sacramento State, working his way towards a degree in Kinesiology.
