Mark Kertenian

Assistant Coach: Cal State Northridge

Matador assistant coach Mark Kertenian heads into his fifth season on the CSUN coaching staff. Kertenian will help coordinate the pitchers and catchers and takes care of first base coaching duties.

The assistant coach began his stay at Northridge on a solid note in 2002, helping the Matadors claim the Big West title while posting an impressive 41-17 record.

He has established himself as one of the most respected instructors in the San Fernando Valley, working with some of the top youth and high school players in the area.

During the summer of 2005, Kertenian managed the Oahu Paddlers to the 2005 Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League Championship.

Kertenian's experience stems from three years playing college ball. As a utility player and pitcher, he spent two seasons playing for Matador head coach Steve Rousey at Los Angeles City College. Kertenian earned all-conference honorable mention honors as a pitcher in 2000 for the Cubs. The Matador first-base coach then played one season at Point Loma Nazarene before coming to Northridge. The utility player saw time both in the field and on the mound at Point Loma.

The assistant coach transferred to Northridge in 2002 to finish off his B.A. degree in Political Science after earning his A.A. degree at L.A. CC in 2000. Recently, Kertenian earned his Master's in Physical Education - Teaching/Coaching from Azusa Pacific University in 2004.

Kertenian is also the founder and director of the Matador summer and winter baseball camps. In his time at Cal State Northridge, the coach has developed the Matador Baseball Camps into one of the most popular camps in Southern California.
