Jason attended Cal Lutheran University in Southern California and was selected by the Houston Astros in the second round of the 2003 Major League Draft.

Jason was the starting pitcher for the Team U.S.A. at the 2006 MLB All Star Futures game and was also named a Triple A All Star.
