LYLE YATES SPENT THE LAST THREE YEARS AS A PITCHING COACH FOR BOBBY VALENTINE AND THE CHIBA LOTTE MARINES IN JAPAN'S MAJOR LEAGUES. DURING THAT TIME THE TEAM WON TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS. HE ALSO SPENT TWO YEARS IN THE HAWAII WINTER LEAGUE, AND ONE TEAM, THE NORTH SHORE HONU, WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2006. PRIOR TO THAT HE WAS A PITCHING COACH WITH THE NEW YORK METS, A MANAGER AND PITCHING COACH WITH THE HOUSTON ASTROS, AND A PITCHING COACH WITH THE TEXAS RANGERS. DURING THAT TIME HE LED TWO TEAMS TO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE MINOR LEAGUES. HE HAS BEEN MANAGER OF THE YEAR TWICE. TO STAY CURRENT HE CONTINUES TO ATTEND CLASSES OFFERED BY THE AMERICAN SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE ON BASEBALL INJURIES. BEFORE PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL HE WAS THE HEAD BASEBALL COACH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO WHERE EIGHT OF HIS LAST TEN TEAMS WERE RANKED IN THE TOP TEN IN THE NATION.
